Explore Abbotsford by Bike

October 16, 2019

As fall leaves turn bright oranges and red… Let’s Go Biking in Abbotsford! There are many great places to explore for riders of all ages and abilities – along dyke trails, on greenways and down quiet country roads.

The Discovery Trail winds through parks from the west side of Abbotsford to Sumas Mountain. It’s especially nice in the fall with views of Mt Baker. You will see a lot of the beautiful Abbotsford countryside as you ride, walk or roll on this paved greenway.

The Sumas Dyke Trail is an easy ride linking McKay Creek Trail, Sumas River Trail, and Vedder River Trail — all part of Canada’s Great Trail.  The dykes surround what was once a large lake, drained in the 1920s, and now the flat Sumas Prairie is home to dairy farms and berry fields.

Road bikers will enjoy these quiet country roads. You’ll see views of Taggart Peak, Vedder Mountain and the Cheam Mountain Range.

The Matsqui Meander has options for all kinds of riders. Visit Matsqui Trail Park for an easy ride along the Fraser River dykes. Enjoy views of the river and surrounding farmlands that follows The Great Trail. Beginning riders will enjoy the easy Willband Creek Park loop and keep your eyes open for migrating birds.

The quiet country roads of the Matsqui Prairie take you past farms, blueberry fields, and orchards. Be sure to stop in at Lepp Farm Market for fresh local vegetables and visit the Clayburn Village Store for their famous scones!
