ATHLETICS

Jane & Gerry Swan Track AbbotsfordAbbotsford has both the facilities and the necessary technical experts to host local, provincial and national athletics championships. The Jane and Gerry Swan track located at Rotary Stadium is rated as one of the best in British Columbia. An excellent track, superior equipment and fabulous volunteers have been instrumental in the securing of major events like the 2007 and 2008 Canadian Junior Athletic Championships. The Valley Royals Track & Field Club have produced some of Canada's premier athletes and is committed to the continued development of athletes through hosting events at all skill and age levels.

ATHLETE PROFILE
Matt Clifford
Matt Clifford Abbotsford
At the age of 14, Abbotsford born, Matt Clifford, began his exciting sports career in Pole Vaulting, and after making a decision between competitive hockey and track, evidently he appears to of made the right one. It all began in 2000 when Clifford won the BC Juvenile Championships and continued in 2002 where he constantly showed promising talent and was named to the Pan-American Junior team.

Matt placed 1st in the BC Junior Championships in both 2003 and 2005. Currently Matt is attending Lindenwood University in St. Louis, Missouri where he continues to perform well in the pole vault while working to obtain a Business Degree. Matt’s ultimate goal is to become a member of the Canadian Olympic Team in 2008, just in time for Beijing.
