SOCCER

Abbotsford SoccerAbbotsford’s soccer community is currently at its highest point, flourishing in all aspects. Abbotsford has both the amenities and resources to host soccer tournaments at the local, regional, provincial and national levels. Abbotsford boasts numerous great facilities that have hosted many successful tournaments in the past. The Abbotsford Soccer Association works diligently to foster the development of approximately 3000 new and existing athletes along with new and successful programs like the Super Y league (the largest Youth Soccer League in N. America) and Pacific Development League. Abbotsford is one of only three Canadian clubs with a Pacific Development League Team and competes in the 2nd division of the United Soccer Leagues across N. America. We are committed to providing opportunities through the hosting of various tournaments and championships.

IN THE NEWS

ATHLETE PROFILE
Sophie Schmidt
At the early age of 12 Sophie began her soccer career by playing on an older successful local Abbotsford club team. Sophie's athletic and tactic abilities did not go unnoticed and she was soon playing more and more competively. This strong defensive and mid-field player is currently the captain of the U20 Women’s Canadian National Soccer team. On top of leading her team to various victories, Sophie is also playing on the Senior Women’s National team along side national identities such as Christine Sinclair, Charmaine Hooper and Kara Lang. To add to her list of accomplishments, Sophie also plays for a Professional Squad, the Women’s Whitecaps in Vancouver. Just recently Ms. Schmidt was inducted into the Abbotsford Hall of Fame, which is an honor given to the top ten athletes of the year. Sophie has been ranked the 11th best women's soccer player in the world. In addition to a very busy travel itinerary with various teams, Sophie still manages to keep on top of her school work. This fall, she will be attending the University of Portland, where the famous Christine Sinclair was a student. Sophie Schmidt is only one of the Abbotsford's soccer community's claim to fame. We also boast two National Boy’s Soccer titles and Canadian National soccer star, Brad Peetoom.
