GYMNASTICS
In the past 10 years Abbotsford has been the home of Twisters Invitational. The invitational hosts 700 plus athletes over a 4 day competition in March of each year. These athletes, coaches, and parents come from all over BC, Canada, and from Japan to compete.
Twisters has grown to become a renowned training centre for Olympic calibre gymnasts. Twisters Gymnastics is the only club in Canadan history to have sent a male and female gymnast to the same Olympic Games. Currently Twisters is home of the National Training Center for Men's Gymnastics.

ATHLETE PROFILE Kate Richardson
Representing Twisters Abbotsford, Kate Richardson, born June 27 1984, is undoubtedly one of Abbotsford's greatest gymnastic talents ever. Although only competing on the senior international circuit for just over two years, Richardson had been turning heads on the Canadian gymnastics scene since 1995, where she first competed at the national championships in Victoria as a novice competitor, when she was not yet 11 years old. Richardson was named to the Canadian team for the prestigious Junior Pan American Championships. At the 1995 Pan Am Games Richardson won the gold medal on the balance beam.
Kate became Abbotsford's first-ever women's Olympic event finalist in Athens at the 2000 Olympic Games. Kate went on to sucessful finishes in the 2001 World Championships and the 2004 Olympic Games. The Twisters Gymnastics Club has helped develop some of Canada's best Olympic athletes. Along with Kate are Olympic heroes, Richard and Ken Ikeda.
