ATHLETE PROFILE
Trudy Du Toit
Trudy Du ToitFor Trudie du Toit, tennis runs in her family. Her father, Andre, ran a tennis academy in South Africa. And that’s not all. Her three siblings—Charles, Trudie and Riaan, were also into tennis.
Trudie and her family moved to Abbotsford four years ago. She has received the distinction of being BC’s top-ranked under-18 player. Also, Trudie is currently seeded among the top 300 under-18 tennis players in the world and recently received the Premier’s Athletic Award.
The South African-born tennis player currently trains at Great West Fitness in Abbotsford, as it is closer to prominent tennis tournaments in Washington, Oregon and California. Trudie has American universities offering her a scholarship. “It’s possible, even for Abbotsford kids (such as Trudie du Toit), to hit the international tennis scene,” said Andre du Toit, in a February 2007 interview with the Abbotsford News.
